remember marla hooch from “a league of their own”? the girl who was so uncoordinated and backward in the land of all that is feminine? the farm girl who needed to be plucked, primed and buffed into a walking, talking and fully functional “lady”? that’s me! well, that’s what I felt like at the beginning of my dance lesson with memo! he has been so patient with me and all of my awkwardness in all things “girlie”.
I have to say, he’s probably the most patient dance partner I could have ever been paired with! he is an amazing dancer and makes every move look sensual and easy. and then I try it! sexy is NOT the word I would use to describe whatever move it is i’m supposed to be trying! but, we keep plugging along and the confidence that has evolved gets better every time. who woulda known counting to 8 would be such a project!? I thought I was a pretty good dancer. heck! I've danced at every wedding, birthday party and I've been known to break out some pretty slammin’ moves during parties. (in my head, I have moves like jagger) in reality, I look more like Elaine Benes! these hips don’t lie!
memo and I have seriously had more fun than I could have ever imagined when I signed up to be in this event. I find myself being pushed beyond where I thought I could be pushed. so, next time you see memo, he might be walking a little funny from all the time I've spent on his feet. give him a huge “thumbs up” for the job he has done with this marla hooch. he’s going to make a girly girl outta me yet! best part of this project? the life-long friend I've made. he and I were meant to be partners! I will make him proud and learn to dance in those d@mn heels because memo say, “sneakers are not sexy for dancing”. ugh!
so have a great week and don’t forget to get your ticket to the DWTS fundraising event on May 9th for the CASA Program. i’ll be the newly primed dancer simply trying to remain upright and not making my partner chase me around the stage. I do like to lead. . .
