Katie Wallace
Occupation: I retired 3 years ago. How long have you lived in Montgomery County? I have lived in Putnam County for 22 years. What do you do for fun in your spare time? Most of my time is spent with 3 of my 5 children that live in Greencastle near me and 7 of my 13 grandchildren that are here, too, plus one great grandson. I'm active at Putnam County Playhouse participating in many productions, this year will find me behind the scenes as assistant director for "She Loves Me". My happiest time is spent on the dance floor. Several times a month my friends and I go dancing, in Terre Haute, (Dance Studio)= Plainfield (The Acquatic Cener)= and Crawfordsville (DancingRaine). We also have season tickets to the Indiana Roof Ballroom. Tell us about your family. I was blessed with 5 children, even more blessed with 13 grandchildren and topping that, 1 great grandson. We have basketball, softball, baseball, football, track, band, and dance. Thank goodness I have the strength to keep up!!!lol We go to the movies, bowling, swimming and have sleep overs at 'grandma's"!!! They love my popcorn and best of all I get to spoil them, which, by the way,I am very good at. What is your dance background? I'm a Middle Eastern (belly dance) performer, teacher, choreographer and student of this marvelous and often misunderstood dance. Since retiring I've been pursuing my first love, ballroom dance. I grew up with this music and dancing with my Dad, he loved to dance. My oldest daughter, Stephanie, is a ballroom instructor and performer living in Columbus OH. I was her practice partner when she had to be the lead, this helped me to learn the steps. 4 1/2 years ago I started taking private lessons to learn the technique in both the smooth and latin categories. I also attend group lessons at several venues many times a month. What is your favorite music to dance to? I enjoy all kinds of dance, there's nothing better than a West Coast Swing or a Rumba...but my all time favorite is a Foxtrot. Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin, Count Basie, Duke Ellington…this is the best!!! Why did you decide to participate in this Youth Service Bureau fundraiser? Anything for kids, they need us and we need them! We need MORE programs that puts the emphasis on kids. Then there's the thrill and/or challenge to teach someone who thinks they can't dance and show them 'they can". From start to finish this is great experience for all involved and to know that what we do on the dance floor raises money for needed programs. I'm honored to be part of this. Why should the public come to this event and support you and your partner? Why? Because it's a lot of fun!!! Business aside, we have so much fun preparing for this night, the Stars work so hard, they are completely out of their comfort zone on the dance floor and need the support of family and friends to make the evening a success. It's a wonderful social event, good food, lots of laughs and the entertainment is fabulous!!! |
