Daryl Mendoza
Occupation: By degree I am a Licensed Bachelor of Social Work. Currently, I am the Clinical Assistant to a Geriatric Psychiatrist on the Generations Unit at Franciscan Crawfordsville. How long have you lived in Montgomery County? The closest my husband and I could get to Montgomery County was Boone County. We moved to Boone County from the Indianapolis area in May of 2018 with the desire to be in a center location of our work places and family. One of the biggest adjustments in my life was moving away from Montgomery County in the 8th grade! What do you do for fun in your spare time? I have traveled out of country 8 times and have now visited 37 states. I enjoy experiencing new cultures, of course new food, and just about anything crafty! My husband and I enjoy hosting friends and family in our home and have recently begun refinishing furniture to keep us a upbeat through the winter blues! I love animals and dog sitting. Tell us about your family: My household is made up of myself, my husband Wilson, and our sweet Cooper (dog). Wilson and I will celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary this year with continued hopes of baby Mendoza! With very minimal exception, my entire side of the family resides in Montgomery County. I joke often that I didn't just have to marry out of the county but out of the country because of my rather large family! Fortunately, I landed in another large family. What song always makes you get up and dance or sing along? In general, I am known for dancing like nobody is watching and karaoke as if I was a pro. I'm laughing as I think about all the inaccurate opinions that could be formed by my song choices. In general, I like genres from 1950's-now. Leave out the screaming metal, dont forget the 2000's rap/hip hop and the country gospel. What was your reaction when you were asked to be a Star? Honestly...my first thought was...if only I were at a more desirable weight... That thought quickly passed as I would never advise a friend to let their weight keep them from dancing. Bring on the crowd, I love to make people smile! Why did you decide to participate in this Youth Service Bureau fundraiser? I decided to participate in this YSB fundraiser for many reason. Personally, I am excited to have something new to focus on. The other day I was driving through Crawfordsville and I thought..."Why am I back here?" This is the place I never wanted to leave, this is the place that molded me but I don't live here. I remember, I would sit at Tuttle and have conversations with Mrs. Streetman about how unfair it was that "us" middle school kids were so misunderstood. I believed in "us" and I guess you could say that I still do. I believe in the youth of this county and that, while no place is perfect, Montgomery Country is a good place to grow up! Why should the public come to this event and support you and your partner? Many times I hear people complain that there is nothing to do here! Some people let their sense of adventure turn into mischief...I say...find something productive to do. Want to give back? Save up! Link up with close friends, save your the gas money you would spend driving to Lafayette or Indy and come on over to Dancing with the Stars! If you don't think you will fit in or know anybody...you are wrong. You will know me, because I don't know a stranger...and hey, while you are at it...choose Brian and I to receive credit for your ticket purchase! |
