Never in my wildest dreams would I have believed I would be doing something as crazy as dancing in front of 800+ people, let alone blogging about it.
As a staff member of the Montgomery County Youth Service Bureau, I have listened to people say this has been the best experience of their lives when the event is over. I always chuckled and thought, "Sure it was!" I could not imagine the stress and anxiety of dancing in front of a crowd being fun!
And then, Memo asked me to be his partner……
He said that he was not going to participate this year unless I danced with him. I shocked him and myself by saying yes. There comes a point in one’s life when sitting on the sidelines watching others have fun starts to suck. Anyone that knows me really well knows I love being in the background and blending in. How I intended to do that while dancing with Memo Rodriquez is beyond me!! When Memo starts dancing you can’t look away. His moves demand that you stand and stare, sometimes with a stupid grin on your face!
Memo has been the most patient, encouraging partner! He told me in the beginning he always gets his way! Oh game on Mr. Rodriquez! Game on! The truth of the matter is…. he usually does get his way, because he usually is right! But what is nice, is that even with my inexperience, he takes my suggestions seriously and we implemented a few. As long as it looks pretty! It has to look pretty!!
What I have learned so far is: My hips have tightened up over the years, I dance stiff legged, my memory is freakin shot, I get dizzy when I twirl, and I am having the time of my life!
Sadly, this is Memo’s last year with Dancing with the Montgomery County Stars. He has moved to Lafayette and is a very very busy 26 year old. His life is full of work, friends, dance, and budding makeup artist. I am truly honored to have shared this experience with him! Hopefully you all will be there May 21st to vote for Memo and give him the win he deserves!
From this point on, any time I dance, I will hear a Hispanic voice in my ear shouting, “Bend your knees…. move your hips... pretty hands!”
